The Ohio Floor Company works in two main areas when it comes to Performance Arts: Dance and Theater/Stage Floors. In the performance art world the sub-floor stays the same, what distinguishes the difference in the floors is the top layer. For example, typically dance floors have a vinyl top layer, while theater/stage floors have a top layer that is wood.
PRO FORMA Sub-Floor Systems are engineered sprung solutions that balance the safety and wellness of the performer with the uniformity and control necessary for optimized performance. Each continuous, integrated subfloor design provides consistent sound and performance across the whole of the studio and stage surface. Pro Forma I has a low-profile height, minimizing ramp and threshold needs while providing uniformity in shock absorption and vertical deflection.

Luma Flex subfloor system is made of 18mm birch plywood planks. The 18mm plywood planks are placed above shock-absorbing foam, which provides the pinnacle of comfort, safety, and performance, along with uniform structural support. Luma Flex combines point-elastic surface properties with an area-elastic substructure. By engaging the athlete with these two types of elasticity, Luma Flex simultaneously responds in the immediate area of impact and across a wider surface area. This combined response generates remarkably high levels of shock absorption and natural stability underfoot.
Dance Floor is a 3.5mm top layer vinyl developed to the needs of the dancing world. With a surface that omits the traditional polyurethane coating normally found on athletic flooring, Dance Floor has the specific level of friction professional dancers prefer. The layer of foam in Dance Floor gives added comfort and reduces strain.
Prima Dance is a top layer vinyl that comes in two thicknesses, 4.5mm and 7.5mm. Prima Dance provides a unique surface that freely supports a dancer’s movements. Prima Dance 4.5mm has a closed cell foam backing, while Prima Dance 7.5mm has a dual-density foam backing. Either one is a great solution for ballet, hip hop, contemporary and modern dance providing long term impact protection for the dancer.
Oak tongue and grooved flooring is a great choice for the front of your theater/stage floor. It is a durable wood flooring that is also a classic look. It can be stained to match the theater’s décor. Oak flooring can be used for the entire theater/stage floor, or it can be used as just the front, that is visible to the audience. A good option is to use plyron flooring for backstage making it easy to replace sections that get worn out from prob installation or general wear and tear.
